Our Vision

Mission, Philosophy

Providence Institute’s mission is fulfilled by providing the highest quality wellness services and educational programs, inspiring personal transformation and sustainable health through the use of modern science and ancient tradition.

It is the philosophy of Providence Institute that lasting and profound change begins with the individual. The cultivation of greater understanding, peace, acceptance and compassion is rooted in self-knowledge and cultivated through practices that bring mental and physical ease and tranquility. Through our scope of services and educational programs, we provide information, expertise and an environment that supports and encourages this transformation.

“Although attempting to bring about world peace through the internal transformation of individuals is difficult, it is the only way.” H.H. the Dalai Lama

The Institute

The Providence Institute School of Massage was established in 2000 by Jennifer and Noah Providence after years of teaching continuing education in Zen Shiatsu. Drawing on the advice of elders in the healing community and the national standards established by professional organizations, a curriculum was built on the foundation of science and technical proficiency that honors the shamanistic origins of healing work and the healing potential of compassionate listening. The school has continued to grow each year, adding innovative new programs and ensuring that Providence remains on the cutting edge of alternative healing education. Locally owned and operated, the Providence Institute has established a reputation as a provider of the highest quality education as well as an establishment which nurtures the personal growth and professional excellence of each student. We are proud to claim highly successful graduates who have developed rewarding careers and continue to touch the lives of many.

The Providence Institute is located in beautiful Tucson, Arizona, which has long been a destination for healing and renewal with its abundant sunshine and mild winters. Tucson is surrounded by five mountain ranges and sits nestled in a valley that has a history rich in Native American, Spanish, and Mexican cultures. Our facility - home to our school, yoga studio, bodywork center, and retail store - is located midtown and is within walking distance of teahouses, natural food stores and restaurants. We provide the opportunity for creating lasting global change through yoga classes, bodywork and career training programs.

Career Training

The Providence Institute offers four certificate programs that prepare students for careers in the healing arts.

We seek students who want to cultivate inner peace and self-knowledge, who wish to serve others through peaceful presence and compassion, and who want to understand and honor multiple traditions of healing and self-cultivation.

The Yoga Studio

The Providence Institute’s Yoga Studio was established in 1997 and has expanded to a schedule of over 50 classes per week to meet the needs of the growing yoga community. Over 1600 students per month attend classes in various traditions of hatha yoga. Classes, ranging from gentle to vigorous, are for students new to yoga as well as those with years of experience. We offer unlimited free yoga classes to students in all of our programs to encourage them to make yoga part of their self-care.

Body Therapy Center

Massage, shiatsu, craniosacral, Thai massage, and other forms of therapeutic bodywork are available in our Bodywork Center seven days a week and evenings. We have over thirty professional therapists on staff who embody qualities essential for transformational treatments.
