General Information about Massage & Bodywork

  • Any time is a good time to get a massage. You don’t need to wait until you’re stressed or injured. Bodywork is a highly effective form of preventative healthcare. With regular treatment, you can avoid the pain and discomfort that stress can cause in your body.
  • If you have a chronic medical condition, you may want to check with your doctor before proceeding on a course of body therapy treatments. For some illnesses, bodywork modalities such as shiatsu, craniosacral, reflexology or chi nei tsang (abdominal massage) may be the most appropriate and effective forms of treatment.
  • At your initial visit, you will be asked to fill out a client intake form and list any injuries and/or underlying medical conditions. You will be asked at subsequent visits about new medical or physical conditions. If you’re not asked, please volunteer any information the therapist should know.
  • When receiving a Swedish massage, you are given privacy to undress (to your level of comfort) and are professionally draped with a sheet during the treatment. The therapist will undrape the section of the body that they will work on and apply oil or lotion to the skin for the massage (see Swedish massage description). When the therapist finishes massaging that area, they will redrape that part, and undrape the next section to be massaged. When the massage is over, you’ll be left in private to get dressed.
  • There are several styles of bodywork (Shiatsu, Thai massage, Craniosacral, Qi Gong Massage, etc) for which the client remains clothed. For these treatments you will want to wear loose comfortable clothing such as sweatpants and a t-shirt.

Our front desk staff is happy to help you find the style of bodywork and practitioner most appropriate for you and to answer any questions you may have.
